  1. United States - 1873 - CABLE CARS USED IN SAN FRANCISCO
  2.      By 1874 a New York resident had invented an electric streetcar.  Horse-drawn streetcars were used in Boston until 1889. At that time they were replaced by electric trolleys.  Electric trolleys moved twice as fast and carried three times the number of passengers as the old trolleys pulled by horses.
